CoPilot UI changes – The Unified Plus Menu

Table of Contents

I found out a bit late in the morning that Microsoft Copilot for Word and Excel has consolidated the previously separate Chat Tool and “+” menus into a single-entry point in Copilot, making it much easier to add context (“grounding”), attach files, and access plugins or data sources—all directly from the prompt box.

The new Unified Plus menu changes things a bit for users.

 Here is why.

• Reduces friction when building prompts
• Improves discoverability of Copilot capabilities
• Keeps users “in flow” without jumping between menus
• Standardizes the experience across licensed and unlicensed Copilot users
From an adoption standpoint, this is exactly the kind of UX simplification that drives real usage—less training, fewer clicks, better outcomes.

Bottom line: Copilot isn’t just getting smarter—it’s getting easier to use.

What has been your experience testing out this new change?
